This bill establishes the Florida Museum of Black History Board of Directors to oversee the commission, construction, operation, and administration of a new museum in St. Johns County. The board will consist of 12 members: three individuals appointed by the Governor (with one serving as chair), three individuals appointed by the President of the Senate, two Senators serving ex officio, three individuals appointed by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, and two Representatives serving ex officio. Appointments must be made by July 31, 2025, and members appointed by the Governor, Senate President, and House Speaker cannot hold state or local elective office while serving on the board. Vacancies will be filled in the same manner as initial appointments. The board is required to work jointly with the Foundation for the Museum of Black History, Inc., a nonprofit organization supporting the museum's creation. Additionally, the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners will provide administrative support and staffing until the project planning, design, and engineering are completed. The bill is set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
