This bill introduces a new provision that requires school districts and charter schools to allow parents to opt their children out of face covering requirements without providing any explanation or evidence. If a school mandates face coverings in school buildings or on school grounds, parents can simply notify the school board, principal, or school administrator of their choice to exempt their child from wearing a mask. Importantly, the school is prohibited from requiring parents to give a reason for their opt-out decision or to provide any documentation about their child's health or educational status. Furthermore, the bill stipulates that schools cannot discipline or treat differently any student whose parent has chosen to opt them out of the face covering requirement. The new law would take effect immediately after its final enactment, giving parents an immediate right to choose whether their children wear masks in school settings.
