This bill amends the New York state military law to provide health insurance premium reimbursement for naval militia members when they are activated by the governor of New York or another state. Specifically, the bill allows for reimbursement of individual or group health insurance premiums, including TRICARE (a federal health insurance program for military service members and their families), at a rate of one-thirtieth of the monthly premium for each day of service. The reimbursement is only applicable for health insurance coverage not already paid for or reimbursed by another governmental entity, and members who decline health insurance are not eligible for direct payment. The adjutant general, in consultation with the state comptroller, will be responsible for creating rules and regulations to implement this provision.
