Bill Summary
A regional transit district is a public transit district created pursuant to Code chapter 28E by one or more counties and participating cities to provide support for transportation of passengers by one or more public transit systems that may be designated as a public transit system under Code chapter 324A. Under current law, a regional transit district can be created by one or more counties, if at least one of the counties has a population in excess of 175,000, and participating cities through a Code chapter 28E agreement. This bill eliminates the county population threshold to be able to create a regional transit district with participating cities.
