This bill proposes to change Ohio election law by requiring state and school district board members to appear on ballots with a political party designation. The bill would modify several sections of Ohio's election code to mandate that candidates for these positions indicate a political party designation when filing their nominating petitions. Candidates would have the option to be listed as a nonparty candidate, an other-party candidate, or with no party designation, but the ballot would no longer be completely nonpartisan. The changes would apply to candidates for city, local, and exempted village school district boards, educational service center governing boards, and the state board of education. This modification means voters would now see party affiliations for these previously nonpartisan positions, potentially allowing voters to more easily understand candidates' potential political leanings when making electoral choices.
