This bill creates a fourth division of the General Sessions and Juvenile Courts in Montgomery County, Tennessee. The new division will have the same jurisdiction, powers, and terms of court as the existing three divisions. The county legislative body will initially appoint a judge to this new division, who will serve until September 1, 2026. Subsequently, the judge for this division will be elected in the August elections of 2026 and 2028, with subsequent elections held every eight years. The fourth division judge will have the same qualifications, powers, jurisdiction, and compensation as other General Sessions and Juvenile Court judges in the county. The county commission is required to provide necessary supplies, furnishings, and a separate courtroom for the new division, and the county sheriff will be responsible for attending the court sessions. The existing court clerk's responsibilities will be expanded to include the work of the fourth division. Additionally, the bill modifies the presiding judge rotation to now include the fourth division, with rotation occurring every four years instead of three. The bill will only take effect if approved by a two-thirds vote of the Montgomery County legislative body.
