This bill amends the New York State insurance law to require all insurance policies that provide inpatient hospital care to include coverage for child and family treatment and support services, as well as children's home and community-based services. The bill modifies three different sections of the insurance law (sections 3216, 3221, and 4303) to ensure that when an insurance policy covers inpatient hospital care, it must also provide benefits for these additional child and family-related services. These services will be added to the existing list of mental health and crisis intervention services that are already mandated for coverage. The bill is set to take effect on January 1, 2026, and will apply to insurance policies issued, renewed, amended, modified, or altered on or after that date. The goal appears to be expanding access to supportive services for children and families within the existing mental health care coverage framework.
