This bill requires schools in New York to include instruction on co-occurring disorders as part of their health education curriculum for junior high and senior high school students. In developing these educational materials, the Commissioner of Education may consult with specialized advisory councils focused on underage alcohol consumption, youth substance abuse, and adolescent suicide prevention. The bill will take effect on the first of July following its passage, with immediate authorization for developing the necessary regulations and implementation guidelines.
