AI Summary

This bill amends several sections of Georgia law to enhance protections around student information and political activities in schools. The legislation prohibits local school systems and public schools from disclosing student directory information to political candidates, campaign committees, political action committees, or groups acting on their behalf, which aims to prevent potential misuse of student data for political purposes. Additionally, the bill makes it a felony to disclose confidential voter registration information to unauthorized persons, with potential penalties including imprisonment up to ten years or a fine of up to $100,000. The bill also explicitly prohibits political candidates, campaign committees, and political action committees from soliciting individuals under 18 years old to fraudulently organize campaign-related events on school property, especially when such events would otherwise be prohibited by school policy or law. The changes are designed to protect student privacy, prevent potential political exploitation of minors, and maintain the integrity of both educational and electoral processes. The act will become effective upon approval by the Governor or when it becomes law without such approval, and it repeals any existing laws that conflict with its provisions.
