This bill requires that within 120 days after each general election, the governing body of every city, county, or city and county (or a delegated local entity like a city clerk's office or county administrator's office) must submit an updated electronic list of local elected and appointed officials to the Secretary of State for inclusion in the official roster of public officials. The bill recognizes that implementing this new requirement may create costs for local governments, and therefore includes a provision that if the Commission on State Mandates determines the bill imposes state-mandated costs, local agencies will be reimbursed according to existing statutory procedures for state cost reimbursement. This bill builds upon existing law that already requires the Secretary of State to compile and publish a roster of state and local public officials, but now mandates a more specific and timely update process for local government rosters following each general election.
