This bill allows Tier II teachers (those who first became members of the Teachers Retirement System on or after July 1, 2015) to convert their unused annual and sick leave into additional retirement service credit. Specifically, the bill enables these teachers to gain one day of retirement service credit for every two days of accrued annual and sick leave, which can be used to increase their retirement benefits by adding additional credited service in the computation of their retirement benefits. Previously, Tier II teachers were not permitted to apply their accrued leave towards retirement service credit.
