This bill amends the New York insurance law to allow insurance producers (licensed insurance professionals) to receive three continuing education credit hours for active membership in a statewide professional insurance producer association during each two-year licensing period. To qualify, the professional association must have existed for at least ten years, have membership comprised of licensed insurance producers, and demonstrate a commitment to professional development through activities like publishing a professional journal at least four times per year, issuing guidance documents, or distributing policy statements. For an individual producer to claim these credits, they must: (1) be in good standing with paid membership dues, (2) certify they have read the association's code of ethics, and (3) attend at least one course, program, or seminar sponsored by the association each year. Additionally, the professional association must annually submit to the superintendent of financial services a list of members in good standing, their current code of ethics, and any other required information. The purpose of this bill is to encourage professional development and engagement among insurance producers by providing an incentive for active participation in professional associations.
