This resolution commends Robert Jesse Warrington posthumously for receiving the Liberty Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the New York State Senate, in recognition of his military service and community contributions. Born in Maine in 1947, Warrington enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1966, serving as a Seaman and receiving training as an ordnance mechanic, and was assigned to a Naval Aviation Weapons Facility in Scotland during the Cold War. During his naval career, he was a member of the Navy's Ceremonial Guard, participating in military funerals, presidential inaugurations, and ceremonial duties for foreign officials. After being honorably discharged in 1969 and receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Warrington remained active in his community, playing semi-professional football, competing in athletic events, and serving as a member of the Valatie VFW and Kinderhook Fire Department. He passed away in February 2023, survived by his spouse Patricia, five children, and five grandchildren. The resolution honors his patriotism, service to the nation, and dedication to his community, and formally commends him at a ceremony on September 23, 2024, while also directing that a copy of the resolution be transmitted to his family.
