This resolution recognizes and honors Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., for their significant contributions to communities, Arkansas, the nation, and the world. Founded in the early 20th century at Howard University during a period of racial turmoil and the Harlem Renaissance, both organizations have a rich history of community service, scholarship, and social justice. Zeta Phi Beta, with 875 chapters and over 2,500 supporters, has provided millions of dollars in scholarships, impacted over 5 million lives through its Z-Hope Programs, and is known for its commitment to scholarship, service, sisterhood, and finer womanhood. Phi Beta Sigma, with 599 active chapters, focuses on "Culture for Service and Service for Humanity," providing annual volunteer hours, mentoring, and significant scholarship support. Both organizations have notable members including Zora Neale Hurston, George Washington Carver, and Bill Clinton. The resolution formally acknowledges their achievements and directs that a copy be provided to the leadership of both organizations, symbolically celebrating their enduring legacy of community empowerment and social progress.
