This bill requires the Department of Public Safety to share driver's license and personal identification card data with the secretary of state to help maintain an accurate statewide voter registration list. Specifically, the bill allows the secretary of state to use data from registered voters who apply for a driver's license or ID card in another state to identify three key situations: (1) voters whose addresses have changed, (2) voters who may no longer be qualified to vote in Texas, and (3) voters who are registered in multiple states. The Department of Public Safety must share information about individuals who hold a Texas driver's license or ID card and subsequently apply for a license or ID in another state. The secretary of state is also authorized to work with the Department of Public Safety to develop rules and procedures for implementing this data-sharing process.
