This bill allows home distillers in Maine to produce small amounts of distilled spirits for personal use under specific conditions. The legislation defines a "home distillery" as a distillation operation located in or near a residential dwelling, such as a house, mobile home, or trailer. Individuals aged 21 and older can produce up to 24 proof gallons of spirits per person, with a maximum annual production of 48 proof gallons (a proof gallon is defined as one liquid gallon of spirits that is 50% alcohol). The bill restricts home distilleries to using stills with a mash capacity of no more than 15.5 gallons and explicitly prohibits selling or offering for sale any spirits produced at home.
