This bill amends the Pennsylvania Construction Code Act by modifying the application and exclusions of the construction code, specifically expanding exemptions for certain types of structures. The bill adds three new categories of structures that will be excluded from the construction code requirements: (1) decks that are no more than 30 inches above grade and attached to a residential building, (2) accessory structures attached to a residential building that cover an entranceway, are one story high, and no more than 200 square feet, and (3) patio covers as defined in the International Residential Code. The bill also revises existing language about temporary structures, clarifying that such structures must be erected for public events, less than 1,600 square feet in size, erected for less than 30 days, not include swimming pools or spas, and meet certain other conditions. These changes appear designed to reduce regulatory burdens on small-scale residential construction and temporary structures. The bill will take effect 60 days after its enactment.
