AI Summary

This bill establishes the Georgia Prevention and Plan Act, which requires the Georgia Department of Education to develop a comprehensive mental health crisis plan in collaboration with the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities and mental health experts. The plan aims to rapidly provide mental health services to students experiencing incidents of violence, threats of violence, natural disasters, or other crisis situations. By January 1, 2026, the department must make this crisis plan available to all local education agencies in the state. Additionally, the bill authorizes the Department of Education to create promotional materials, training programs, and curricula designed to help students and school personnel recognize and report severe mental illness. These materials and training programs will be distributed to local education agencies, and the department is required to adopt specific rules and regulations to implement these provisions. The bill defines "local education agency" by referencing an existing code section and demonstrates a proactive approach to addressing mental health support in Georgia's school systems.
