This bill authorizes the Probate Court of Schley County to charge a technology fee of up to $5.00 for each civil action filed and up to $5.00 as a surcharge on each court fine. The collected funds must be used exclusively for technological needs of the Probate Court, including purchasing computer hardware and software, leasing and maintaining equipment, acquiring imaging and communication devices, and converting court records to digital formats for public access. The clerk of the probate court must maintain these funds in a segregated account subject to audit by a county-approved auditor. The technology fee authorization will expire on July 1, 2035, at which point any remaining funds will be dedicated to general Schley County technology uses. By implementing this fee, the bill aims to help the Schley County Probate Court modernize its technological infrastructure and improve court record management and accessibility.
