This bill establishes the New Mexico-Ireland Trade Commission, which will be administratively attached to the economic development department. The commission will consist of 16 members: 5 members appointed by the senate president pro tempore and minority floor leader, 5 members appointed by the house speaker and minority floor leader (all serving during their respective legislative session), 6 members appointed by the governor for four-year terms (including representatives from higher education, an Indian nation, agricultural business, energy business, and Irish-American communities), and the director of international trade from the economic development department. The commission's primary duties include advancing bilateral trade and investment between New Mexico and Ireland, focusing on technology, agriculture, and energy sectors, promoting business and academic exchanges, encouraging economic support and infrastructure investment, and submitting an annual report to state leadership by December 1st each year. Members who are not public employees will not receive compensation, but the commission can accept gifts, grants, and donations. The commission will elect a chair and vice chair annually, meet at least once a year, and hire necessary staff to carry out its objectives.
