This bill allows public high schools and charter schools in Texas to offer hunter education instruction as part of their high school graduation courses. The State Board of Education will be required to develop curriculum guidelines for these hunter education classes in cooperation with the Parks and Wildlife Department. These guidelines must meet the requirements needed to obtain a hunter education certificate, as specified in the Parks and Wildlife Code. The curriculum development must begin as soon as possible after the bill's effective date, and the optional hunter education instruction will be available starting in the 2025-2026 school year. The bill will take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote from the Texas Legislature, or on September 1, 2025, if it does not receive the immediate voting support. This legislation provides an opportunity for high school students to learn about hunting safety and regulations as part of their standard educational programming.
