This bill establishes a Type 1 diabetes early detection program in Florida that requires the Department of Health to develop and distribute informational materials to help parents and guardians recognize early signs of Type 1 diabetes in young children. By July 1, 2025, the department must create standardized materials to be posted on its website, which will include a description of Type 1 diabetes, its risk factors and warning signs, the process for screening using a blood autoantibody test, and recommendations for further medical evaluation if warning signs are present. Early learning coalitions will be required to annually notify parents of children in voluntary prekindergarten, kindergarten, and first grade about the availability of these materials. The goal of the program is to increase awareness and enable early detection of Type 1 diabetes, a chronic condition where the pancreas produces little or no insulin, by providing parents with accessible, comprehensive information about the disease's symptoms and screening options.
