AI Summary
This bill establishes restrictions on state and local government officials' assistance in the detention of individuals solely based on their immigration status. Specifically, the bill prohibits any official, employee, or agent of a state agency or local governmental unit, including law enforcement officers, from aiding in the detention of an individual at certain locations such as public buildings, schools, places of worship, child care facilities, or healthcare facilities if the detention is based exclusively on the person's immigration status. The bill allows for exceptions when a properly executed judicial warrant is present, meaning officials can provide access or assistance if required by a valid court warrant. Additionally, the bill prevents state agencies from spending any money to support such detentions and ensures that employees at the specified locations cannot be compelled to assist federal officials in detaining individuals solely due to their immigration status. The legislation defines key terms like "local governmental unit" and "state agency" to clarify its scope, and aims to create protections for individuals in sensitive locations by limiting immigration enforcement actions in those spaces.
