AI Summary

This bill establishes a licensing system for radiologist assistants in Georgia, defining their role as advanced certified diagnostic radiologic technologists who assist radiologists under direct supervision in performing advanced imaging procedures, with specific allowances for non-invasive tasks under general supervision. It outlines qualifications for licensure, including age, registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) as a radiographer and either as a radiologist assistant with ARRT or a radiology practitioner assistant with the Certification Board for Radiology Practitioner Assistants (CBPRP) and ARRT, and requires ongoing continuing education for license renewal. The bill also prohibits individuals from practicing as or holding themselves out as radiologist assistants without a valid license, provides a pathway for currently employed radiologist assistants to obtain licensure, and grants the Georgia Composite Medical Board authority to regulate their practice, including setting continuing education requirements and establishing an advisory committee composed of radiologists and radiologist assistants. Importantly, the bill clarifies that licensed radiologist assistants cannot interpret images, make diagnoses, or prescribe medications, and that their scope of practice must align with guidelines from professional organizations.
