S. B. 239 (SUB)

AI Summary

This bill makes several changes to Georgia's laws governing funeral directors and establishments, primarily by removing the requirement that funeral directors must also be licensed embalmers, though it maintains that a funeral director in charge of a funeral establishment must hold both licenses. It revises definitions for terms like "embalmer," "funeral director," and "funeral merchandise," and clarifies the responsibilities for all funeral services offered at funeral establishments, organic human reduction facilities, or crematories. The bill also modifies provisions related to the State Board of Funeral Services, including its membership, terms, and powers, and updates educational and apprenticeship requirements for both funeral directors and embalmers, establishing separate examination requirements for each. Additionally, it revises rules for licensure by reciprocity and the reinstatement of licenses, and clarifies procedures for the disposition of cremated or organically reduced remains.
