This bill amends existing California law regarding electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in common interest developments, such as condominiums and planned communities. The bill removes the requirement that an owner's insurance policy must name the homeowners association as an additional insured party when installing an EV charging station. It preserves the state's policy of promoting and encouraging EV charging stations by preventing unreasonable restrictions while ensuring that installations meet health, safety, and zoning requirements. Additionally, the bill allows associations to create new parking spaces to facilitate EV charging station installation and provides potential penalties for associations that willfully obstruct the installation process. Notably, the bill maintains provisions that allow owners to install charging stations in their designated parking spaces or common areas, with the association required to process approval requests in a timely manner.
