This bill adds new disclosure requirements for self-service storage facilities (like storage unit rental businesses) starting January 1, 2026. Specifically, rental agreements must now clearly disclose on the first page, in a visually prominent manner (such as using contrasting colors or fonts), six key pieces of information: the length of the rental agreement and its renewal terms, whether the rental fee is promotional or discounted, the duration of any promotional rate, whether the rental fee can change and what the maximum fee could be in the first 12 months, the specific steps needed to terminate the rental agreement and avoid future fees, and the owner's contact information. The goal is to make storage unit rental agreements more transparent by ensuring customers have clear, easily noticeable information about their rental terms, potential rate changes, and how to end their agreement. These requirements will apply only to new rental agreements signed on or after the specified date, giving storage facilities time to update their standard contract templates.
