This resolution mourns the passing of Maulana Ali Waller Sr., a Peoria resident who died on February 11, 2025, and provides a detailed tribute to his life and legacy. Born on May 4, 1971, to Henry Waller and Hazel Williams, Waller graduated from Manual High School in 1989, attended Westmar University, and became a certified nursing assistant, notably serving as a caregiver for his sister Angie. Known affectionately as "Skanie," he was remembered as a family-oriented person who played a vital role in his nieces and nephews' lives, was deeply committed to his faith, and had passionate interests in music (including writing raps), reading, cooking, and humor. The resolution acknowledges his surviving family members, which include multiple siblings, children, aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends, and also recognizes those family members who preceded him in death. The Illinois House of Representatives formally expresses its condolences to his family and loved ones, and resolves to present a copy of the resolution to his family as a symbol of sympathy.
