This bill creates a fee waiver program for state business licenses specifically targeting veterans and gold star family members. Under the new law, the Secretary of State must waive the initial state business license fee and renewal fees for the first three years for applicants who meet certain criteria: (1) the applicant is an "eligible veteran" (defined as a Nevada resident who retired from the Armed Forces after 20 or more years of service or due to a physical disability), (2) the applicant is a "gold star family member" (defined as a Nevada resident who is the spouse, child, or parent of a military service member), or (3) at least 51 percent of the business is owned by eligible veterans or gold star family members. The bill includes an important restriction that prevents an applicant from receiving a fee waiver for more than one business. Currently, state business license fees are $200 for most businesses and $500 for corporations, and this bill will help reduce the financial barriers for veterans and military families starting or operating businesses in Nevada. The provisions of this bill will take effect on July 1, 2025, giving state agencies time to prepare for implementing the new fee waiver program.
