This bill provides $20,000,000 in grant funding to the Metropolitan Council to help cities within the metropolitan area reduce inflow and infiltration (I/I) in their wastewater collection systems. Inflow and infiltration refers to excess water that enters municipal sewer systems through cracks, illegal connections, or other means, which can overwhelm treatment facilities. The grants will cover up to 50 percent of capital improvement costs for eligible cities, with priority given to cities that are identified as contributing excessive I/I to the metropolitan sewer system or are close to exceeding their I/I limits.
