AI Summary

This bill establishes the Wesley's Law Grant Program, which will provide up to $3 million annually in grants to local school systems and public schools (including charter schools) to acquire and maintain opioid antagonists starting in the 2026-2027 school year. An opioid antagonist is a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose. The Department of Education is directed to seek funding for the program from the Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust and will be required to annually report data to the Governor, including participation rates, the number of opioid overdoses, how many times opioid antagonists were administered, the outcomes of those administrations, and the overall impact of Wesley's Law on opioid overdoses in schools. The State Board of Education will establish the criteria for awarding grants, and schools are not precluded from purchasing opioid antagonists on their own. The Department of Education is also authorized to create rules and regulations to implement the program, ensuring schools have the necessary resources to respond to potential opioid emergencies.
