This bill revises the process for filling vacancies on the Muscogee County School District board of education. Under the new provisions, if a vacancy occurs more than 90 days before a general election, a special election will be held on the same date to fill the unexpired term, with the remaining board members selecting a qualified interim candidate to serve until the elected person takes office. If a vacancy occurs 90 days or fewer before the general election, the remaining board members will select a qualified person to serve the remainder of the unexpired term. Any person elected or appointed must meet the same qualifications required for a full-term office. The special election will be conducted within the specific portion of the school district from which the vacant seat originates (either a portion or the entire district, depending on the original election method). The Muscogee County election superintendent must issue a call for the special election within 30 days of the vacancy and conduct the election according to the Georgia Election Code.
