This bill establishes the Nevada State Service Corps as a program within the Department of Administration, designed to provide recent graduates of the Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) with opportunities to serve in positions within the state's Executive Department. The Department of Administration will be responsible for developing and overseeing the Corps, including recruiting students who have graduated within the past year or are about to graduate. A legislator will be appointed by the Legislative Commission to serve as an advisor to Corps participants, promoting the benefits of state service and offering encouragement. The Director of the Department will determine the annual number of students who can participate and will have the authority to apply for grants, gifts, and donations to support the program. The bill also modifies existing state employment regulations to allow positions in the classified service to be filled by Corps participants without competitive evaluation and exempts Corps participants from the typical 160-hour temporary service limitation. This initiative aims to provide recent graduates with professional experience and support the state government's workforce development efforts, with the program set to become effective on July 1, 2025.
