This bill amends the Texas Election Code to expand the responsibilities of the tabulation supervisor at a central counting station. Under the proposed changes, the tabulation supervisor must now ensure that ballot counting continues uninterrupted until all ballots are counted. If the supervisor fails to comply with this requirement, they will be personally liable for a $500 civil penalty assessed by the Attorney General. The bill maintains existing eligibility requirements for the position, which include being trained in operating automatic tabulating equipment and being either a registered voter in the political subdivision or an employee of that subdivision. The tabulation supervisor remains responsible for overseeing the operation of automatic tabulating equipment and is entitled to compensation set by the establishing authority. The bill would take effect immediately if it receives a two-thirds vote in the Texas Legislature, or on September 1, 2025, if it does not receive the necessary immediate voting support.
