AI Summary

This bill establishes a three-year pilot robotics program for Georgia public high schools, designed to provide funding and support for school robotics initiatives. The State Board of Education will select up to ten eligible schools from the lowest-performing 25% of schools statewide, with a goal of promoting science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and improving students' skills. To participate, schools must submit an application by November 1, 2025, detailing their plans for personnel, equipment, facilities, and student involvement, along with a resolution from their local board of education. The program will provide up to $2 million in grants annually for three years (starting in the 2026-2027 school year), with selected schools focusing on developing robotics programs and supporting students' participation in interscholastic robotics competitions. The Department of Education will monitor the program and provide annual assessments to the State Board of Education, with the ultimate aim of potentially implementing a state-wide robotics program. The pilot program is set to automatically expire on July 1, 2029, and the State Board of Education has been granted authority to waive certain regulations to facilitate the program's implementation.
