This bill appropriates $2.5 million total ($1.25 million in each of fiscal years 2026 and 2027) from the arts and cultural heritage fund to the Minnesota Humanities Center to provide grants supporting cultural festivals and events across Minnesota. The funding can be used for various event-related expenses including programming, staffing, community outreach, transportation, facility and equipment rentals, and signage. Up to $200,000 of the appropriation may be used to reimburse county sheriff departments for public safety expenses related to these festivals. The bill specifically directs the Humanities Center to prioritize funding for several named cultural festivals, including events celebrating Somali, Jazz, Hmong, Latino, and local St. Paul communities such as the Somali Museum Annual Celebration, Twin Cities Jazz Fest, Hmong Festival, Cinco de Mayo festival, Rondo Days, Hiddo Soor International Somali Cultural Festival, Safe Summer Nights, and Somali Independence Day events.
