This bill directs the division of veterans' services to establish a comprehensive, searchable database and directory of veteran-owned businesses in New York State. The bill defines a "veteran-owned business" as a company where at least 51% is owned by veterans, managed by veterans, and independently operated. It requires the department of veterans' services, in collaboration with other state agencies, to develop and regularly update an online directory that categorizes these businesses by industry and location. A special mark (such as an asterisk) will be used to identify service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. The office of general services will create a centralized, internet-based searchable database to promote these businesses to the public. The bill also mandates that state agencies conduct outreach to notify veteran-owned businesses about the directory and database, and develop a registration process for businesses to be included. Additionally, the bill amends existing law to require veteran business seminars to provide information about this new directory and database. The goal is to increase visibility and opportunities for veteran-owned businesses in New York State by making it easier for government agencies, municipalities, and the public to find and support them.
