This bill requires Nevada's Medicaid program to provide coverage for comprehensive obesity treatments and diabetes prevention services. Specifically, the bill mandates coverage for intensive health, behavior, and lifestyle treatments for obesity, as well as surgical interventions for obesity that are recommended by professional medical societies. The bill also requires Medicaid to include services from diabetes prevention programs for eligible recipients who have not previously participated in such programs. Additionally, the legislation directs the state to include prescription drugs approved by the FDA for chronic weight management in patients diagnosed with obesity on its preferred drug list. The Medicaid program must cover these weight management medications when prescribed according to FDA indications. The Department of Health and Human Services is required to seek federal funding approvals and notify Medicaid recipients about these new coverage options within 30 days of implementation. The new coverage provisions are set to become fully effective on January 1, 2026, with preparatory administrative work allowed to begin immediately upon the bill's passage.
