This bill eliminates the legislative regulation committee responsible for reviewing and approving state building code regulations, specifically removing provisions that previously required the building code standards committee's codes and standards to be reviewed and approved by this legislative committee before being filed with the secretary of state. Currently, the legislative regulation committee consisted of four representatives from the house and three senators who were tasked with reviewing proposed building code regulations within 60 days of submission. By removing these provisions, the bill streamlines the regulatory process, allowing the building code standards committee to adopt and implement codes and standards directly without additional legislative review. The committee will still be required to submit an annual report to the general assembly about adopted codes and standards, but the final approval step by the legislative regulation committee will be eliminated. The bill will take effect immediately upon passage.
