This bill modifies Rhode Island's existing law regarding concealed carry permits by removing the provision that previously allowed out-of-state residents to obtain a local concealed carry permit based on a permit issued by authorities from another state or subdivision. Now, only residents with a bona fide residence or place of business within the specific city or town can apply for a concealed carry permit. The licensing authorities will continue to evaluate applicants based on whether they have a good reason to fear injury to their person or property and are deemed suitable to receive a permit. The bill maintains existing privacy protections that prevent licensing authorities from releasing personal information about permit holders, and it will take effect immediately upon passage.
