This bill amends the New York Social Services Law to provide child day care providers with more flexibility when addressing facility licensing requirements. Specifically, if the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) determines during an inspection that a day care facility does not fully meet licensing standards, the agency can now extend the standard 90-day period for making necessary changes or accommodations. Importantly, this extension allows providers to correct issues without having to restart the entire licensing application process. Moreover, after the initial extension, OCFS will have the authority to grant additional time extensions as needed. This change aims to support child care providers by giving them more time and opportunities to meet licensing standards, which could help prevent unnecessary disruptions to child care services and provide facilities with a more reasonable pathway to compliance.
