The bill amends four different chapters of the state's General Laws related to health insurance (covering accident and sickness insurance, nonprofit hospital service corporations, nonprofit medical service corporations, and health maintenance organizations), adding a new section to each that requires this reimbursement parity. The legislation ensures that independent healthcare facilities are not financially disadvantaged compared to hospital-affiliated facilities when providing the same medical services. The health insurance commissioner is given the authority to create and implement rules and regulations necessary to enforce this requirement. The bill is subject to appropriate federal law and is set to take effect on January 1, 2026, giving insurance providers and healthcare facilities time to adapt to the new reimbursement structure.
