Specifically, hospitals must: (1) directly disclose to patients and their representatives information about charitable programs that can help with medical bills, (2) prominently display this information on their website, in lobby areas, and other visible locations, (3) include a notice about these charitable programs on the first page of medical bills and intake documents using the same font and format, and (4) inform their social workers about these programs and require them to share this information with patients. The bill is designed to ensure that patients who may struggle to pay their medical expenses are aware of potential financial assistance options. The law will go into effect 120 days after it is enacted, with immediate authorization for preparing implementing regulations.
