AI Summary

This bill authorizes pharmacists to provide a one-time prescription refill for up to 100 days under specific circumstances, designed to help patients maintain critical medication access when they cannot immediately contact their prescriber. The pharmacist can dispense the refill only if the prescription is not for a controlled substance in Schedules II-V, the medication is essential for life maintenance or treating a chronic condition, and the pharmacist professionally determines that interrupting the medication could cause harmful health consequences or significant physical or mental discomfort. Before or after dispensing, the pharmacist must notify the prescriber within seven business days, or if no current prescriber exists, maintain detailed internal documentation of the transaction. This legislation aims to provide a safety net for patients who might otherwise experience gaps in necessary medical treatment, with the new provisions set to take effect on July 1, 2025.
