AI Summary
This bill amends Maine's dental regulations to expand the scope of practice for Expanded Function Dental Assistants (EFDAs). Specifically, the bill eliminates the requirement for EFDAs to obtain a separate dental radiographer license, instead allowing them to expose and process radiographs as part of their existing professional duties. The bill adds "expanded function dental assistant" to the list of professionals authorized to perform certain dental procedures and creates a new provision explicitly permitting EFDAs to take and process dental X-rays. Additionally, the bill modifies language around existing dental assistant procedures, such as supragingival polishing and contouring or finishing restorative materials. The legislation is classified as an emergency measure, which means it will take effect immediately upon approval, with the primary goal of reducing unnecessary licensing requirements and additional fees for dental assistants. This change aims to streamline professional regulations and potentially improve efficiency in dental practices by allowing qualified dental assistants to perform a broader range of tasks without obtaining multiple separate licenses.
