This bill establishes an Accessible Housing Task Force to examine housing challenges for people with disabilities and recommend ways to increase accessible and independent housing options in Minnesota. The task force will consist of 20 members appointed by the governor, including people with disabilities, parents, representatives from disability advocacy organizations, state agencies, housing providers, and other stakeholders. The task force's primary duties include researching housing experiences of people with disabilities, investigating barriers to accessible housing, and developing recommendations to improve housing availability and policies. Members will seek input from individuals experiencing housing challenges and analyze approaches used in other jurisdictions. The task force is required to submit an initial report by February 1, 2026, and a final report by August 31, 2026, to legislative committees. The definition of "accessible housing" includes modifications that enable people with disabilities to live independently, such as adapted bathrooms, cabinetry, appliances, and spatial configurations. Task force members will serve without compensation, except for public members who will receive standard expense reimbursement. The task force will automatically expire after submitting its final report, and the bill includes a one-time appropriation from the general fund to support its work.
