The previous law also included provisions for the State Board of Education to grant waivers under certain "good cause" conditions, such as schools in a county being closed eight days per year due to severe weather or emergencies. By deleting these specific calendar constraints, the bill gives local school boards in Granville and Vance Counties more autonomy in determining their academic year schedule. The bill will take effect immediately upon becoming law and will apply starting with the 2025-2026 school year, allowing these school districts greater flexibility in planning their academic calendars to best meet local educational needs.
