This bill establishes additional public transparency requirements for school district budgets in New Jersey by mandating that both the proposed and adopted budgets be made more accessible to the public. Additionally, the version of the budget approved by the Commissioner of Education must be posted no later than 48 hours before the public budget hearing, with the same accessibility requirements. The adopted budget must also be published online and in print, using a plain language format that will be developed by the Commissioner of Education. The new requirements will first apply to school budgets prepared for the second full school year following the bill's enactment.
