This bill amends the State Education Office Establishment Act of 2000 to create a new Arts Liaison position within the Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE). The Arts Liaison will have several key responsibilities: developing state-level arts standards in collaboration with Local Education Agencies (LEAs), which include DC Public Charter Schools (DCPCS) and DC Public Schools (DCPS); strengthening arts curricula and instruction; serving as the primary point of contact for arts-related issues in schools; providing guidance and support to school administrators and teachers; supporting professional development for arts teachers; and partnering with arts organizations to provide resources and organize events. The bill defines "arts" by referencing the existing definition in the Commission on the Arts and Humanities Act. The new position aims to enhance arts education across the District of Columbia's school system by creating a dedicated role to coordinate and improve arts curriculum and support. The act will become effective after approval by the Mayor, congressional review, and publication in the District of Columbia Register.
