This resolution commends the Punjabi language by recognizing its global significance and the contributions of Punjabi-speaking communities in the United States, particularly in Georgia. The resolution highlights that Punjabi is the ninth most widely spoken language in the world, with approximately 600 million speakers primarily in India, Pakistan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, and Australia. Specifically, it notes there are more than 780,000 Punjabi-speaking Americans and over 15,000 Punjabi-speaking Georgians. The resolution acknowledges the efforts of the Sikh American Society of Georgia and local Punjabi-speaking communities in preserving and sharing their language, literature, art, culture, and traditions. Through this resolution, the House of Representatives officially recognizes the Punjabi language and honors the contributions of Punjabi speakers to their communities. Additionally, the resolution directs the House Clerk to make copies of the resolution available for public and press distribution.
